PMDOSetup
PMDOSetup is the installer and updater for PMDO. It is used to manage the install of the game, by pulling builds of PMDO. It may be downloaded from github.
Installation
To run PMDOSetup, find the directory where PMDO was installed. Find the PMDOSetup file, with a different extension depending on the operating system, and run it. A console will open up.
When first running PMDOSetup, the console will output some instructions where PMDO will be installed to that directory once you confirm the process.
To run PMDO, open the created PMDO folder. The executable has the name PMDO with a file type that depends on the operating system.
Linux & Steam Deck
PMDOSetup and PMDO can be ran like any other executable on Linux distributions, including SteamOS on the Steam Deck.
To run PMDOSetup, open a console in the folder containing it (usually by right clicking and picking the "Open Terminal" or equivalent option). Then, type ./PMDOSetup to execute the file. It will proceed through the terminal as it does on all platforms. Read the terminal and confirm, then wait for it to finish updating.
Then, to run PMDO, open a console in the generated PMDO folder and run ./PMDO. This will start the game.
Steam can be used as a convenient way to run PMDO without having to open the console through the Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library... option and selecting the executable file, with no additional configuration needed.
NixOS
On NixOS, which uses a different file schema than most linux distributions, PMDOSetup can be run using steam's compatibility tools with steam-run ./PMDOSetup. The game itself can similarly be run using steam-run ./PMDO. The game runs with no quirks through this method.
Using PMDOSetup
When subsequently running PMDOSetup, it will look something like this:
Updating
PMDOSetup will always preserve the save file when updating, but it is recommended to resolve any quicksaves and rescues while updating to avoid invalidation. When an update option is selected, the updater will fetch the latest version of the component that can be found for the operating system.
Uninstalling
When uninstalling from PMDOSetup, the save data present on the system will be preserved. All other data will be deleted.
Downgrading
In some contexts, downgrading the version of PMDO may be necessary. This is typically used in the context of a mod, where downgrading may be required to play it.
With PMDOSetup running, type "5" in the console selector to change to the downgrade menu.
The Left/Right arrow keys can be used to navigate between versions, with 9 versions to choose from being shown per page. PMDO versions down to 0.7.11 are available to downgrade to.
