The regular attack is a special move in PMDO.

Effects

The regular attack deals damage with no special effects. It is None-type, so its damage is unaffected by type matchups or STAB.

The regular attack is available to all Pokémon at any time by pressing the attack key/button, rather than selecting from the moves list.

Defeating a foe using only regular attacks will not award experience points.

Strategy

Because the regular attack does not consume PP, its use is vital for PP management during longer explorations. The regular attack is useful for finishing off opponents at low HP, saving the player 1PP of a higher-power damaging move. This strategy is most useful for physical attackers, since the regular attack is physical and because physical attackers are more likely to have dash moves that bring them in range for a regular attack.

Weak opponents can also be defeated using one low-value status move (e.g. Sand Attack, Growl) and then entirely regular attacks to earn experience points for negligible PP cost in challenge dungeons. The player can then replace the low-value move with a more useful move when learned after several levels have been gained.
